A Picture Paints a Thousand Numbers for Deutsche’s David – Dublin Tableau User Group

Ahead of the first Dublin Tableau User Group of the year, The Information Lab Ireland sat down with guest speaker David O’Cinneide of Deutcshe Bank to talk about his journey with Tableau and how it has helped both he and his colleagues gain insights from their data.

David’s background in Economics gave him a sound platform from which to dive into data. Over the last decade, he has held roles in Data Analysis in both Finance and Technology and has specialised in Visual Analytics for over two years.

Back in October 2019 he was asked to join the Data Analytics team at Deutsche Bank and has been developing their data strategy ever since.

The Dubliner’s love of Tableau started when it became clear to him that “pictures are better than numbers” when it comes to presenting data.

“I need to be able to express ideas with clarity,” says David. “People are busy, sometimes time-poor and they need to be able to see data in the most engaging way possible. If it’s presented simply and clearly that really helps with that engagement.”

A Picture Paints a Thousand Numbers

“I think that is what I will trying to get across on the evening of the Tableau User Group. I want to help people convince stakeholders that pictures are better than numbers and I hope to show them how.”

This will be David’s first presentation at the Dublin TUG but it won’t be his first time in attendance. In fact, he is something of a regular.

“These meet ups are great,” he says. “I make it to as many of them as I can. It’s nice to meet like-minded people across different industries and to get ideas from them. A lot of talented Tableau users are at these events and it’s great to catch up with them as often as possible. The free beer and the pizza also helps a little.”
