This week’s #TableauTip is short and sweet and looks at how you get the Side Bar back in Tableau. This is something that can happen quite a bit in Tableau; not because there is anything wrong with the software but simply because the user hits the wrong part of the screen or doesn’t yet understand what certain icons do.
The most common reason for the sudden disappearance of the sidebar is that people click on the dropdown icon beside Analytics in the Side Bar.
Suddenly it disappears and panic sets in. Firstly, please rest assured that his has happened almost everyone. Secondly, it is easy to fix but a little hard to find. There are two ways you can get the sidebar back in Tableau.
Two ways to get the Side Bar back in Tableau
The Side Bar hasn’t gone away. It has merely reduced and if you look at the bottom left of your dashboard you’ll see it hiding in plain site. All you have to do is click on the double-arrow icon and back it comes like magic.
The second method takes you to the top of the dashboard where you’ll find the Window option. Simply open that and then select Show Side Bar. Now you are back to where you want to be and you can continue creating your visualisation.
