Groupon is a global eCommerce marketplace with bases in Dublin, London and Chicago — connecting millions of subscribers with local businesses in 15 countries. Groupon’s customers are always on the hunt for a bargain in cut-price activities, travel, goods and services, but The Information Lab didn’t cut any corners in this company-wide training project — turning hundreds of Groupon staff into Tableau gurus.

Developing data-driven excellence across a whole organisation

Project goals

  • To upskill Groupon’s 300+ Tableau Desktop analysts
  • To provide in-house support to all of Groupon’s 8,000+ Tableau users
  • Build up a strong visual analytics culture and community, through Tableau Blueprint

Engagement

  • Provided six months of on-site dedicated support from one Information Lab expert
  • Two in-person and two webinar training sessions per week
  • We facilitated an internal support desk for all Tableau-related issues
  • Provided extensive guidance on Tableau dashboard design

Results

  • Through training, staff are now able to create visually enhanced Tableau reports
  • Company-wide improvement in Tableau skills, through comprehensive web-based training
  • Inspired the creation of training content and resources, shared via internal portal
